December 14, 2000

Members Attending: Rev. Richard Butler, Pastor, Deacon Charles Cornell, Marshall Cross, Donne Cutting,  Nancy Dome, Jackie Downing, Mike Holt, Judy Killeen, Shirley Ormsby, Margaret Passafiume, John Slattery, Mike Statkus.

Members Absent: Paul Curley, Patricia Noone, Julie Orsatti,

Minutes: Minutes of November 9th accepted with correction; final sentence on the “Communication paragraph” – change parish to parish pastoral council.

Priority and goal for 2000-2001

Extensive brainstorming on how to celebrate the 40th looking to the past but, yet more, looking to the future.

Note: Campaign committee will be meeting January 10th to wrap up their task including the final blessing of the renovation probably in the spring.  Fr. Butler will have a better picture of that at the next ppc meeting January 11th.

Question here is broader – how to celebrate the full parish experience.  New parishioners represent new cultural realities of today.  How do we get a handle on it and translate it into simple moments, direction, philosophy?

25th was celebrated with a number of events – crammed into one week.  40th likewise might have a number of events (though 40th isn’t usually as significant a milestone and the events need not be all in one week.)

Noted that not all parishioners know one another.  Parish directory planned to begin with a photo op in February should help. Suggested it might be good at some Masses to have people introduce themselves to one another.

Value of gaining strength and identity from our patron St. Isidore repeated.  Plan for the Newsletter is to have regular anecdotes on this.  12th century farmer, husband, farmer set example of living simple pious life even in difficult times – (how to be Christ in the workplace!)

We are working on a logo that can capture a message via painting or sketch of Isidore.

Also suggested we find a slogan or catchy phrase.  “We journey on”  “Plowing ahead with St. Isidore”  “Honoring the past, envisioning the future.”

Potential of an essay contest to get youth to address the question: a. Isidore; b. the future of the parish.

Update from the Pastor

Report distributed.  Finance paragraph at the end was to have replaced the initial paragraph which was carried over from a month ago.  Packard Rd sale was noted. Font and furnishings should be addressed in January.  Newsletter should be sent out the week after Christmas.  Archdiocesan convocation is set for Saturday March 10th

New Business

Desire to have bulletin board restored to the front lobby.

Desire to have holy water font at side doors.  This countered by desire to accent the fullness of the baptismal font at the main door as the sign of entrance.  Can people at the side doors walk down the aisle to the font?

Noted that not all are standing for Communion.  Can this directive be repeated?

Review of the meeting

“great vitality”  “good visioning of thoughts – but now two months on the same items – how to move on?”  “good ideas for the next meeting” “value of looking at the 25th; (we will try to have copies of the 25th book by the next meting)” “fascinated by the future”

Next meetings:

Jan 11, Feb 8, Mar 8, *, May 10, Jun 14, 2001

*Thu. Apr. 12 is Holy Thursday, thus no meeting.  Determine in February whether to reschedule or cancel.

Archdiocesan assembly of parish pastoral councils and parish finance councils  Mar 10, 2001
