Update from the pastor to parish pastoral council 9 October 2003
Apple Fest
The APPLE FEST is set for Sunday October 12 from 11:30 to 3:30.
Liturgy
November 30th we will be introducing a few changes in the manner of our celebrating
liturgy to conform with the recently promulgated revision to the Roman General
Instruction on the Roman Missal. Some of these changes are not new, simply
accenting former directives had not been adequately noted earlier (e.g. bowing
at the words of the incarnation in the creed.) Some of the changes are new
with the Roman revision (e.g. all kneeling briefly at the invitation to Communion
“Lord, I am not worthy”) Some are optional (e.g. replacing the Nicene Creed
with the Apostles’ Creed, which we will do seasonally.)
A significant element of the new instruction is the emphasis on moments
of silence framing the various elements of the liturgy. We have striven to
accent this already and will be continuing to do so in the future.
We will be calling for a new class of Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors
mid October.
Generations of Faith
A team from the parish will be participating in the first of a series of
meetings on November 7th. The series will continue over eighteen months.
Pancake Breakfast
The social committee is planning on a pancake breakfast November 1st.
Finances
The Finance Council gave a full statement to the parish September 28th.
Stewardship
The results of the recent Stewardship survey will be in next week’s bulletin.
They have encouraged us to have more adolescents in formal liturgical ministries.
Over the coming weeks we hope to introduce some of our confirmation candidates
into the ministry of greeter and usher.
